The Gujarat Eco Niwas Samhita (G-ENS) is the Energy Conservation Building Code for Residential Sector. It was developed to improve the thermal performance of residential buildings while also lowering their energy consumption and CO2 emissions. It is applicable to buildings with a plot area > 500sq.m. It was developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power. 'Part-1: Building Envelope’ was introduced in 2018 and ‘Part-2: Code compliance and Electro-Mechanical and Renewable Energy Systems’ was launched in 2021.
Gujarat, lying in the western region of India is one the most pro-active states in term of implementation of infrastructure, new projects, policies and research. It has been known to be a pilot state for implementation of new and modern reforms and policies, not only in the building sector, but others as well. With the residential building energy code slowly gaining popularity and awareness, this G-ENS portal has been developed at the state level to enable easy facilitation and serve as a one-stop-shop solution to ENS compliance for residential buildings in Gujarat, India.
The platform provides a wide range of support including fundamentals of ENS, guidance for ENS compliance, calculation guidance, design guidance along with educational components like basics of building physics and relevant case studies. The portal aims to equip a user with all relevant resources to pursue ENS compliance for a building.
